ASTOP is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of sexual assault and providing information and resources to the Fond du Lac and surrounding communities.  ASTOP provides services at no charge to the client and is funded through a combination of state, local, and federal grants as well as fundraising and individual and business donations.  ASTOP provides services in a strength based and holistic manner. 

ASTOP would not be able to provide essential services to the community without volunteers.  Volunteers staff the 24-hour crisis intervention hotline before and after office hours.  The shifts are broken down into six-hour increments (midnight to 6 a.m., 6 a.m. to noon, noon to 6 p.m., and 6 p.m. to midnight).  We ask for four shifts per month.  Each month you are sent a sign up sheet to sign up for shifts that work with your schedule.  The schedule for the following month is based on those individual schedules.  It’s nice because you are volunteering from home!  We have an answering service that patches the call through to you so that you never have to worry about callers getting personal information and you can do things around the house as well.

ASTOP also provides medical advocacy services to sexual assault survivors as they present themselves in the emergency room of St. Agnes Hospital.  Medical advocates provide intervention and intermediary services for the survivor.  We have a pager system in place where volunteers are on call, before and after business hours, in one-week increments on a rotating schedule.  If you would like to be a medical advocate you would shadow the other medical advocates until you feel comfortable being on your own.
